History of the Driftless Area Initiative
In 2005 the Driftless Area Initiative hired David Wilson as its first Coordinator. During this period, DAI functioned essentially as an extension of the six founding RC&D's. Much was accomplished during this time. Partnerships were developed and extended, a strategic plan was developed, funding was obtained for significant projects and the Driftless Area Initiative became a strong and vibrant force for change within the region. In 2010 the board hired John V. Walsh as the first Executive Director of the Driftless Area Initiative. That same year DAI became incorporated in Wisconsin, completed the revision of its bylaws, hosted the Midwest Biomass Conference in Dubuque and modified the makeup of its board to include several non-RC&D members. At the Partners meeting held in July, 2010, DAI established four committees to work on multi-state initiatives for the entire region.
